It is difficult to explain what a rainbow gathering is since there are no “official” versions or leaders to quote and since every gathering is a different experience for everyone everytime.

They began in 1972 in the U.S., and ever since, they’ve been home to the rainbow family of living light every year around the 4th of July, switching from one region to the other.  Soon the rainbow energy expanded and the rainbow family grew, and smaller gatherings began to take place at different times and different regions, first in the U.S. and then all over the world.

Nowadays the rainbow gatherings are unofficially classified into nationals, internationals, regionals, world gatherings, or just by the name of the region (i.e.  Central American Gathering) or continent (i.e.  European Gathering), but it is all relative and certainly irrelevant as the true spirit of the gathering is indepedant of any titles or nationalities: every rainbow gathering is a world gathering.

The name “rainbow” comes from the Hopi prophecies that talked about the people of all colors of the rainbow coming together, and that’s exactly what a rainbow gathering is: people coming together, families coming together, tribes coming together.  Regardless of religions, nationalities or any other labels, conditions or circumstances, anyone anywhere can consider him or herself a member of the rainbow family and is welcomed home to every gathering they wish to attend.  Every gathering is an opportunity to come closer to Mother Earth and to experience what it is to live in harmony with brothers and sisters from so many different places. We all become students and teachers, as we all, coming from different paths and backgrounds have so much to share.  Different types of music, art, workshops and food flood the environment and create an amazing flow of energy.

I heard a  police officer say once that it was impossible that rainbow has no leaders, because this many people could never come together without a formal organization.  He is proven wrong every year, all the time, all over the world.  Rainbow is probably the largest non-organization of non members in the world and the magic is so unique and the energy so intense, one has to experience it to believe it.

Es difícil explicar qué  es un encuentro arco iris, ya que no existen versiones “oficiales” o líderes  a quienes citar y ya que cada encuentro es diferente para cada persona, cada vez.

Comenzaron en Estados Unidos en 1972 y han sido desde entonces hogar para la “familia arco iris de la luz viviente” cada año, al rededor del 4 de julio, cambiando de una región a otra.  Poco después la energía del arco iris se extendió y la familia creció y encuentros más pequeños comenzaron a tomar lugar en diferentes momentos, en diferentes regiones, primero en Estados Unidos y después en todo el mundo.

Actualmente los encuentros arco iris son, de manera no oficial, clasificados en nacionales, internacionales, regionales, mundiales o de acuerdo a la región (p. ej. “Encuentro Centroamericano”) o al continente  (p. ej. “Encuentro Europeo”), pero todo esto es relativo y ciertamente irrelevante, ya que el verdadero espíritu del arco iris es independiente de cualquier titulo o nacionalidad: cada encuentro arco iris es un encuentro mundial.

El nombre arco iris viene de la profecía Hopi que habla de las personas de todos los colores del arco iris reuniéndose, y eso es exactamente lo que un encuentro arco iris es: personas reuniéndose, familias reuniéndose, tribus reuniéndose.  Independientemente de religiones, nacionalidades o cualquier otra etiqueta, condición o circunstancia, cualquier persona, en cualquier lugar puede considerarse miembro de la familia arco iris y es bienvenido a casa a cualquier encuentro que desee asistir.

Cada encuentro es una oportunidad para acercarse a la Madre Tierra y experimentar lo que es vivir en armonía con hermanos y hermanas de muchos lugares diferentes.  Todas(os) nos convertimos en maestras(os) y estudiantes, ya que, viniendo de tantos caminos y pasados, tenemos mucho que compartir.  Diferentes tipos de música, arte, talleres y comida inundan el ambiente y crean un flujo increíble de energía.

I started recording music at rainbow gatherings in 2000. It began simply enough like everything else in our world, from purchasing the recording devices to figuring out the best field setting, and ever since it’s been my  goal to provide everyone access to the incredibly diverse and beautiful songs of the gatherings.

Remember to thank the artists featured here if your paths ever cross. It takes great determination to play  music, and an even greater calling to bring a guitar 2000 miles from home, and then lugging it through a forest to reach a gathering. These songs are the result of hundreds of peoples efforts to make a gathering happen, and it is a blessing to be able to sit by a warm fire at night with a warm drink in hand and the offering of music to fill our hearts.

I treasure all the music and artists listed on this web site, and I feel these songs should be accessible to everyone, anytime. I’ve been recording music at local, national, and international gatherings for over 7 years. On this website, you can download or listen to over 175 songs. They are varied as much as the rainbow tribe itself. The tribe represents all walks of life and most  types of music. They will make you laugh and make you dance. They will make you cry and they will make you sing.

Each of these tracks is a one source recording. No additional studio elements have been added. This is pure, live music out in the forests of this world. May these songs be shared as freely as they were on the day they were created.

Comencé a grabar música en los encuentros arco iris en el 2000.  Comenzó de manera sencilla, como todo en este mundo, desde comprar los aparatos de grabación hasta comprender las mejores condiciones de campo, y ha sido mi meta desde entonces dar acceso a todo el mundo a la increíble diversidad y hermosas canciones de los encuentros.

Recuerden agradecer a los artistas presentados aquí si alguna vez cruzan caminos.  Requiere gran determinación tocar música y un llamado aun mayor para llevar una guitarra a mas de 2000 millas de casa y luego cargarla por el bosque para llegar a un encuentro.  Estas canciones son el resultado de cientos de esfuerzos de personas para lograr que suceda cada encuentro y es una bendición poder sentarse frente a una fogata en la noche con una bebida caliente en la mano y disfrutar esta ofrenda de música llenando nuestros corazones.

Atesoro toda la música y los artistas listados en este sitio y siento que estas canciones deben ser accesibles a todo el mundo, todo el tiempo.  He estado grabando música en encuentros locales, nacionales e internacionales por mas de 7 años.  En este sitio puedes bajar o escuchar más de 175 canciones.  Son tan variadas como la tribu arco iris misma.  La tribu representa todos los caminos de la vida y la mayoría de los estilos musicales.  Estas canciones les harán reír y les harán bailar.  Les harán llorar y les harán cantar.

Cada uno de estos temas es una grabación proveniente de una sola fuente.  No se le han añadido elementos de estudio.  Esta es música pura, en vivo, de los bosques del mundo.  Ojalá que estas canciones sean compartidas tan libremente como el día en el que fueron creadas.
