1- Trance Dance - Nada Bindu (Fukawi Orchestra)

This song is from the July 5th belly dance night at camp Clandestino(aka Kickapoo and Deva Diner). Months prior to the gathering both kitchens collaborated on an organic food order and so they decided to combine forces and do a kitchen together offering gourmet organic meals and hosting various artists and events at the nightime bliss pit(campfire). The collective name of Clandestino was a joke as the kitchen was enormous and it looked like a giant ship sailing the oceans of everywhere. However, people typically referred to calling it by many names such as Kick-a-deva or Devapoo or simply Kickapoo. The Fukawi Orchestra reference comes from a brother who changed his name at a gathering while listening to the hypnotic and ancient sounds of Nada Bindu. It was a rebirth experience for him and he has never been the same. This belly dance piece features various percussion instruments and an Oud (Middle Eastern lute) played by Robbie.

Esta canción es de la noche de la danza del vientre del 5 de julio en la cocina Clandestino (alias Kickapoo y Deva Diner).  Meses antes del encuentro ambas cocinas colaboraron en una orden de comida orgánica y decidieron unir fuerzas y formar una cocina juntas, ofreciendo alta cocina orgánica y presentando varios artistas y eventos en la fogata durante las noches.  El nombre colectivo de Clandestino era una broma ya que la cocina era enorme y parecía como una nave gigante navegando en los océanos del todo.  Sin embargo, la gente se refería a la misma llamándola por muchos nombres, como Kick-a-deva o Devapoo o simplemente Kickapoo.  La referencia a la Fukawi Orchestra (“Orquesta Fukawi”) es por un hermano que se cambio el nombre en un encuentro mientras escuchaba los hipnóticos y antiguos sonidos de Nada Bindu.  Fue una experiencia de renacimiento y desde entonces nunca ha sido el mismo.  Esta pieza para danza de vientre incluye varios instrumentos de percusión y un Oud (Laúd del medio oriente) interpretado por Robbie.

3- Softly - Loon

This song was recorded at the Granola Funk Theatre(aka Gfunk) July 4th Variety show. A gentle little folk song with some nice words.

4- Spiritual - Sister Otis

Sister Otis and her band(bass n drums) played a few songs at the Gfunk Variety Show. Cool groove and a bassline that carries this song into the sublime.

5- Wherever You Go, Whatever You Need - Rocker T

A pretty ballad and a feelgood roots-y jam. Nuff said!

6- Blue Sky - Guitar Mike & the colorful MC Naria

Mike played this song in the early evening at camp Clandestino. The imaginative little girl Naria kept asking people what their favorite color is and this song was Mike=s colored response. If you listen closely you can hear Naria giggling and questioning in the background.

Mike toco esta canción temprano en la noche en la cocina Clandestino.  La imaginativa niña Naria seguía preguntándole a la gente cual era su color favorito y esta es la colorida respuesta de Mike.  Si escuchas con atención puedes escuchar a Naria riéndose y preguntando en el fondo.

7- Sasparilla - Podank

This "bastard‑grass" band is from Tulsa,OK. They jammed these songs at a campfire near camp Clandestino. These guys are a fun band and they jammed out some great original and traditional tunes. A rollicking and foot stomping evening!

8- Rasta Roots Medley - Rocker T

These medley is something like 4 songs( original and traditional) blended into one. A groovey jam with some divine lead guitar by Jay. Roots as smooth as the morning light.

Este popurrí es algo como 4 canciones (originales y tradicionales) mezcladas en una sola.  Una excelente sesión de improvisación con una guitarra divina interpretada por Jay.  Roots tan suave como la luz de la mañana.

9- The Goddess Coming Out Of The Closet - Shaman Woman

10- Get Connected - Phillip

Recorded at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. A very cool song and a pleasure listening to the gfunk crowd singing the ooh’s and aah’s . Many of us are indeed waking up. Cha-ka cha-ka boom boom!

Grabada en el Show de Variedades del 4 de julio en Gfunk.  Una canción muy cool y un placer de escuchar a la audiencia de Gfunk cantando los “oohss” y “aahs”.  Muchos de nosotros estábamos de hecho, despertando.  Cha-ka cha-ka boom boom!

Another song from Sister Otis and band at the Gfunk Variety Show. This song rocks and rolls along with some great drums n bass. Divine lyrics and groove to tickle our toes. Every now and then a song comes along that has all the right words and flow. For me, this is one of those songs and one of my favorite recordings.

Otra cancion de Sister Otis y su banda en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk.  Esta canción vibra con excelentes tambores y bajo.  Letras divinas y vibra que nos hace cosquillas.  De vez en cuando llega una canción que tiene las palabras y el flujo precisos.  Para mí esta es una de esas canciones y una de mis grabaciones favoritas.

1- More Luv - Rocker T

Rocker T played this new song for us and it later became the title to an album he released later that year. I mentioned earlier that camp Clandestino looked like a giant ship, so much so that a brother known as Pating even constructed a Ship wheel at the head of the kitchen to guide our cooking and bliss fire voyages. Pating became the honorary captain and it is his lucid laughter that you hear in the beginning of this song. Here we set sail for the land of roots!

Rocker T toco esta canción para nosotros y más tarde se convirtió en el titulo de un álbum que presento más tarde ese año.  Mencioné antes que la cocina Clandestino parecía un barco gigante, tanto que un hermano conocido como Pating hasta construyó un timón en la parte delantera de la cocina para guiar nuestro cocinar y nuestros viajes de dicha.  Pating se convirtió en capitán honorario y es su risa lúcida que escuchan en el comienzo de la canción.  Aquí alzamos las velas para navegar hacia la tierra del roots!

2- Poem/Deeper Love - Diamond Dave & Joni

Diamond Dave is a living legend and he has been hosting open mics at rainbow gatherings and beyond for a number of years. He is a good friend and always a joy to be around. I thank him for always encouraging me to record and contribute to the hipstory. Here he is sitting with Joni outside of camp Clandestino reciting an introductory poem that takes us right into Joni’s delightful song of deeper love.

Diamond Dave es una leyenda viviente y ha estado haciendo de anfitrión para las noches de talentos en los encuentros arco iris y otros por una gran cantidad de años.  Es un buen amigo y siempre es una alegría estar cerca de él.  Le agradezco por siempre animarme a grabar y contribuir a la “hipstoria”.

3- Spiral Dance - Nada Bindu(Fukawi Orchestra)

Another spiraling belly dance song from July 5th at camp Clandestino. I was not sure what to call this song: all I know is it makes me feel like a spiral. Give it a listen and let me know if you feel twisty as well.

Otra canción en espiral de la danza del vientre del 5 de julio en la cocina Clandestino.  No estaba seguro como llamar a esta canción: lo único que sé es que hace sentir como un espiral.  Escúchala y avísame si te hace sentir igual.

4- Spirit Calls - Sister Otis

The last song that Sister Otis played at the Gfunk Variety Show.  Another exceptional hoedown. Tom Robbins once said that only the dead know for sure whether there is an afterlife and their not talking. So I suppose we shall wait until the spirit calls...

La ultima canción que Sister Otis toco en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk.  Otra sesión excepcional. Tom Robbins dijo una vez que solo los muertos saben con seguridad si hay o no una vida después de la muerte, y ellos no hablan al respecto.  Así que supongo que tendremos  que esperar a que nos llamen los espíritus...

5- Kickapoo - bohbe & the Kickapoons

Recorded at camp clandestino some sunny afternoon after the snow storm(yes we survived a four day snow storm...). For many years Kickapoo kitchen has been commited to offering organic food at the gathering. This is Bohbe=s tribute to the organic movement.

Grabada en la cocina Clandestino en alguna soleada tarde después de la tormenta de nieve (si, sobrevivimos una tormenta de nieve de cuatro días...).  Por muchos años la cocina Kickapoo ha estado comprometida a ofrecer comida orgánica en los encuentros.  Este es el tributo de Bohbe al movimiento orgánico.

6- Don’t You Cry For Me - Guitar Mike

Another song from Guitar Mike at camp Clandestino. I love Mike’s songs and this is one of my favorites by him. Awesome blues-y harmonica!

Otra canción de Guitar Mike en la cocina Clandestino.  Me encantan las canciones de Mike y esta es una de mis favoritas.  Excelente armónica estilo blues.

7- One More - Rocker T

It was one song after another that Rocker T played for us at camp Clandestino. Here is the last on this years collection and he played this song while some otherwordly and glorious chocolate truffles were handed out. During seed camp we experienced a 4 day snow storm that left the rainbow gathering made of tarps, stones and love a sloppy and muddy mess. It is amazing that we managed to recover and bake nightime goodies for spectacular live shows such as this.

Era una cancion detras de otra que Rocker T nos tocaba en el campamento Clandestino. Aquí está la última de la colección de este año y él toco esta canción mientras unas excelentes trufas de chocolate eran repartidas.  Durante el campamento semilla experimentamos una tormenta de nieve de 4 días que dejo al encuentro arco iris- construido de toldas, piedras y amor- convertido en un desastre lodoso.  Es impresionante que pudimos recuperarnos y hornear bocadillos nocturnos para maravillosos espectáculos nocturnos como este.

8- Beernanearnear - Podank

Another song from Podank’s campfire jam. My favorite song of theirs with quirky lyrics and a song title that may seem odd and confusing, but I feel like I understand it somehow. Ya know, I thought it was sooooooo close...

Otra canción de la sesión de improvisación en la fogata de Podank.  Es mi canción favorita de ellos, con letras raras y un titulo extraño y confuso que de alguna manera siento que entiendo.  Ya sabes, pensé que estaba taaaaaaan cerca...

9- Talking Blues - Stan

Recorded at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. A great politically conscious song. Add this to the hipstory collection.

Grabada en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk del 4 de julio.  Una gran canción con conciencia política.  Añadamos esta a la coleccion de la “hipstoria”.

10- Consumer - Human (intro by Diamond Dave)

Recorded at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. I added Diamond Daves famous organic rap in the intro. A good song that reflects upon all of us consumers of the world.

Grabada en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk del 4 de julio.  Añadí el famoso rap de Diamond Dave sobre lo orgánico.  Una buena canción que reflexiona sobre todos nosotros, los consumidores del mundo.

11- What is, What if, Whatever - Aaron Funk & Nada Bindu

This performance piece is from the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. I am not sure if these guys prearranged this or if this is improvised. Either way I love what the funkster has to say. Speaking of funksters I would like to express my gratitude for the loving service that Granola Funk has provided over the years. They come and build incredible stages year after year offering to the family a place for magic to happen. You will see many performances from Gfunk in my recordings and it is because I love to be there and let the tape roll.  Ya never really know what to expect or for that matter what is going to happen next. One moment a person is reciting a poem but they forget the words so the audience finishes it for them in such a delightful way, then someone cartwheels across the stage to rapturous audience approval and then comes sombody singing a song or telling a story that transcends time and space.

Esta pieza es del Show de Variedades del 4 de julio en Gfunk.  No estoy seguro de si estos chicos practicaron esto o de si estaban improvisando.  De cualquier modo me encanta lo que los “funkseros” tienen que decir.  Hablando de “funkseros”, quisiera expresar mi gratitud por el amoroso servicio que Granola Funk ha proveído por tantos años.  Llegan y construyen increíbles escenarios año tras año ofreciendo a la familia un lugar para que suceda la magia.  Van a ver muchas interpretaciones de Gfunk entre mis grabaciones y es por que me encanta estar ahí y dejar que la cinta corra.  Nunca se sabe qué esperar o lo que va a pasar después.  Por ejemplo, una persona esta recitando un poema, pero olvidan las palabras, y el publico lo termina por ellos de una manera muy alegre, luego alguien hace una voltereta a través del escenario frente a una audiencia aficionada y luego alguien canta una canción o cuentn una historia que trasciende el tiempo y el espacio.
