This wonderful medley was performed by Rocker T who rocked us all at the Granola Funk Theatre(AKA Gfunk) July 4th Variety Show. He is accompanied by Diego on
mandolin and Andias on the upright bass. This jam along with many songs on this years collection were recorded at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. It was a great evening and we were blessed with many fine performances.  

2- Drums,Drums,Drums - Dundun Village

This drum jam is from the folks at Dundun Village. This jam also rocked our world  at the Gfunk Theatre July 4th Variety Show. That is Shanti you hear in the intro signing and playing the African Marimba.

3- Napoli - Gabriella

This is a lovely folk song from Gabriella recorded at the Deva Diner bliss pit (campfire). She  wrote this song of reflection sitting on the rooftops in Napoli, Italy.

I have always enjoyed Jay’s music at rainbow and he offered this gorgeous song at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. His is accompanied by Andias on upright bass.

Siempre he disfrutado la música de Jay en los encuentros y el ofreció esta hermosa canción en el Show de Variedades del 4 de julio en Gfunk.  Le acompaña Andias en el bajo.

I came upon Raccoon sitting on the trail playing his guitar. He has some great tunes and he is always a pleasure to record. I enjoy the sounds of the main circle drums pounding in the distance. I love the unpredictability of each performance that I record as you never really know what sounds from the “background” may creep into the recording(passing conversation, crying babies, insects, etc). Either way its all part of it and finds it’s way in there somehow!

Me encontré a Racoon sentado en el sendero tocando su guitarra.  Él tiene muy buenas melodías y siempre es placentero grabarlo.  Disfruto el sonido de los tambores en él circulo principal resonando en la distancia.  Me encanta lo impredecible de cada presentación que grabo pues nunca se sabe en verdad que sonidos del “fondo” se incluirán en la grabación (conversaciones de los pasantes, llantos de bebes, insectos, etc).  De cualquier manera son parte de la canción y de alguna manera encuentran su sitio dentro.

Alyssa played this tender song at Gfunk during the July 4th Variety Show. She has a very beautiful voice and I find different layers each time that I listen.

This trance like instrumental by Curtis was recorded at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. I love this piece! Just close your eyes and let go...

After the early evening rain on July 2nd Rocker T made his way up the muddy trails to Deva Diner and jammed out some great reggae tunes for us. Here he captivates us with a lovely ballad.

Después de la lluvia de la tarde del 2 de julio Rocker T encontró su camino a través de los senderos lodosos hasta la cocina Deva Diner y toco unos grandiosos temas de reggae para nosotros.  Aquí nos cautivo con una hermosa balada.

10- Take care of yourself - Gabriella

This is another song by Gabriella from the Deva Diner bliss pit. This song is for all the travelers as we part ways and head out on our journey. Be kind and have blessed adventures until we see each other again...

Esta es otra canción interpretada por Gabriella en la fogata de Deva Diner.  Esta canción es para todos los viajeros que se separan y se aventuran en sus viajes.  Se amable y ten aventuras benditas hasta que nos veamos de nuevo.

This song is from a great night of music at Jerusalem Camp on July 3rd. Sung in Hebrew, it was explained to us that it is a song for peace. My heart melts each time that I hear hundreds of people signing in such joyful bliss. Singing these heartsongs is important for healing and bringing people together of all styles and cultures. It is my hope that we continue singing our songs and telling our tales in whatever way we know best.

Esta canción es de una gran noche de música en el Jerusalem Camp (“Campamento Jerusalén”) el 3 de julio.  Cantada en hebreo, nos explicó que era una canción para la paz.  Mi corazón se derrite cada vez que escucho cientos de personas cantando con tanta dicha.  Es importante cantar estas canciones del corazón para sanar y para reunir a las personas de todos los estilos y todas las culturas.  Tengo la esperanza de que continuemos cantando nuestras canciones y contando nuestras historias en la forma que mejor sepamos.

This reggae classic is from Rocker T at Deva Diner on July 2nd. The background sounds  blending with the music and words reminds me of the great irony and magic that is so strong in these rainbow recordings. This song is a great example as you can hear the crackling of the fire popping along with the burning lyrics. Stoke up the fire!

Este clásico del reggae es de Rocker T en la cocina Deva Diner el 2 de julio.  Los sonidos del fondo mezclándose con la música y las palabras me recuerda la gran ironía y la magia tan fuerte en estas grabaciones de los encuentros arcó iris.  Esta canción es un gran ejemplo pues se puede escuchar el crujir del fuego junto con la letra de la canción que habla de llamas.  Aviven el fuego!

I recorded this chant by Shanti at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. I love the thumping bass by Andias. In the intro to the song I added a sample of the bullfrogs I recorded while sitting along side the gorgeous river during seed camp. I love that sample and I just had to find a way to squeeze it onto the CD. For me the bullfrogs remind me of that gathering and hearing them brings me back...

Este canto de Shanti lo grabe en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk el 4 de julio.  Me encanta el sonido del bajo de Andias.  En el preámbulo de la canción añadí un sample de los sapos que grabe sentado a un lado del hermoso río durante el campamento semilla.  Me encanta este sample y tenia que encontrar la manera de meterlo en el CD.  Los sapos me recuerdan a este encuentro y escucharlos me regresa a ese momento...

This is another song that Rocker T laid on us at the Gfunk July 4th Variety show. Again he is accompanied with Diego on mandolin and Andias on upright bass. This was a classic moment and a classic song that is a favorite for many people.

Esta es otra canción que Rocker T nos presento en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk el 4 de julio.  Otra vez, le acompañan Diego en la mandolín y Andias en el bajo.  Este fue un momento clásico y una canción clásica que es la favorita de muchas personas.

3- New Day Sun - Double Dose

Double Dose are a pair of guitar playing twins who have jammed at rainbow campfires for many years. Here is a song from a jam they had at the Deva Diner bliss pit.

Double Dose (“Dosis Doble’) son unos gemelos guitarristas que se han presentado en las fogatas de los encuentros arcoiris por muchos años.  Aquí esta una canción de una sesión que tuvieron en la fogata de Deva Diner.

4- Gumbo Rhythm - Drum Brothers

This rhythm from Mali was played by the Drum Brothers at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. The music kept on flowing that night. NOTE: There was a bit of confusion in the my tapes and this track is actually from either the Montana or Idaho gatherings. Since we shall never know lets be Sci-fi and say both.

Este ritmo de Malí fue interpretado por los Drum Brothers (“Tambores Hermanos”) en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk el 4 de julio.  La música siguió fluyendo esa noche.

5- Paz - Shanti

This is the second song that Shanti played at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. I love the way the audience added animal and bird noises in the beginning of the song. You just can’t bring moments like this into a studio. Spontaneity comin’ at cha live and raw.

Esta es la segunda canción que Shanti toco en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk el 4 de julio.  Me encanta la forma en que la audiencia añadió sonidos de animales y aves al comienzo de la canción.  Estos momentos no se pueden llevar al estudio.  Espontaneidad llegando a ti, en vivo y al natural.

6- Free Da Herb - Rocker T      

This is a reggae medley that Rocker T played at the Deva Diner bliss pit on July 2nd. Get your reggae groove on with this one. This was an awesome performance and perhaps one of my favorite Rocker T shows that I have ever seen. He had us all smiling and dancing in our hearts and shoes..

Este es un popurrí de reggae que Rocker T toco en la fogata de Deva Diner el 2 de julio.  Métete en la onda de reggae con esta canción.  Esta fue una sorprendente presentación y probablemente uno de mis shows favoritos de Rocker T que he visto.  Nos tenia a todos sonrientes y bailando en nuestros corazones y en nuestros zapatos.

7- Cajun Hoedown - Rainbow Gypsies

The Gypsies have been grooving gypsy style tunes at rainbow for many campfires. This Cajun flavored medley was performed at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. Great groove!

The Gypsies (“Los Gitanos”) han estado presentando melodías gitanas en los encuentros arcó iris por muchas fogatas.  Este popurrí con sabor cajun fue interpretado en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk el 4 de julio.  Excelente pieza!

8- I’ll Show You Mine - Gabriella

This is Gabriella playing at the Gfunk open mic night on July 1st. This song is a humorous and a somewhat uncomfortable childhood memory. C’mon we can all
relate...no?

Esta es Gabriella tocando en la noche de talentos de Gfunk el 1ro de julio.  Esta canción es chistosa y de cierto modo un recuerdo incomodo de la niñez.  Vamos, a todos nos ha pasado... no?

9- Song for Valentine - Double Dose

Another song by Double Dose at their Deva Diner jam. My personal favorite song by them. They mentioned that this song was written at the annual rainbow gathering
in Colorado in ‘92. There was also a lovely violin solo by Botta Bam that seemed to lift the song even higher.

Otra canción por Double Dose en su presentación en Deva Diner.  Mi canción favorita de ellos.  Ellos mencionaron que estas canciones fueron escritas en el encuentro arcó iris anual en Colorado en el ‘92.  También hubo un hermoso solo de violín por Botta Bam que elevo la canción aun mas alto.

10- Grow - Osha

This spoken word/poem is performed by Osha at the Gfunk July 4th Variety Show. I have always enjoyed offering the different  types of performances and styles that you may find at rainbow.  This is a very vibrant and funky free flowing rhyme and a pleasure to have in the hip story of rainbow recordings.

Este poema fue interpretado por Osha en el Show de Variedades de Gfunk el 4 de julio. Siempre he disfrutado estas ofrendas de diferentes tipos de presentaciones y estilos que se encuentran en el arcó iris.  Esta es una rima muy vibrante y de flujo libre y que es un placer tener en la “hipstoria” de las grabaciones de los encuentros.

11- More Drums - Dundun Village

Recorded at Dundun Village at some point in the rainbow night. People always tell me to record more drum circles. More drums they say, well here you go with an extended jam that lasts well over 10 minutes. Just so y’all know drum circles are very difficult
to record as you never have a point of reference but sometimes the positioning works out  and well, here it be...Listen for a hidden track at the end.

Grabada en Dundun Village en algún momento de la noche del encuentro.  La gente siempre me pide que grabe mas círculos de tambores.  Mas tambores me dicen, bueno, aquí tienen una sesión extensiva que dura mas de 10 minutos.  Solo pa’ que sepan, los círculos de tambores son muy difíciles de grabar pues nunca se tiene un buen punto de referencia, pero a veces el posicionamiento funciona y, bueno, aquí lo tienen.  Presten atención a un tema escondido al final.
